Desnoyer Park Update
This early 20th-century cottage needed a little elbow room for modern living but the owner wanted to preserve the existing charm. The challenge was to create a new driveway, garage and addition within very tight dimensions, all over difficult soil conditions. The design solution preserves almost all of the existing home and adds new spaces that tie into the home’s charming aesthetic.
The small addition makes room for a kitchen pantry, half-bath, commodious back entry and stair to the lower level—all taking advantage of southern exposure and allowing light to spill deep into the existing spaces. Each detail was thoughtfully considered to blend in with existing features, from exterior brick water-table to arched interior openings and handrail design. The design includes lush gardens (remarkably fertile soil in the area!) and a detached two-car garage.
