Highland Park Contemporary

Located on a double lot in the Highland Park neighborhood of Saint Paul, MN, the owners wanted the house to be sensitive to the existing scale of the neighborhood while standing out as a new concept. The design solution was to break down the mass of the building into complimentary pieces: dark, flat-roofed boxes with a subtle, panelized cladding, and pitched-roof elements with stained cedar channel siding.

While the house is not large (2200 sf without the garage), it has a spacious feel with strong visual continuity and a phenomenal connection to the back yard. The modern interior features dark stained carbonized bamboo flooring, flush birch doors, recycled paper countertops, thermofoil cabinets and glass and steel tile.
